If you prefer the beach in front of a pool but happen to visit the city during the jellyfish season, you should walk down to the centre where there is a significant public pool but with sandy beaches and seawater where the jellyfishes can't reach you. There are also gas barbecues that anyone can use, just like in many other cities in Australia.
